How important is vegetation in the prevention of erosion?
Vegetation/revegetation is a proven land-based strategy when managing erosion. The thicker the vegetation the better. A natural barrier of trees and grasses will hold together the sand slowing the impacts of erosion. Continual regeneration, addition planting will contribute to a solid barrier.
Due to concern with the loss of native vegetation, in 2019 a small area was closed for revegetation and native trees and grasses planted where land had been cleared. This was a joint effort between the Brisbane City Council and a group of individuals from the Kooringal community.
Should we be doing more of this to regenerate and protect the shoreline?
